Location: Situated in the southeast of Guangdong, Jieyang is north to the South China Sea and neighbor to Shantou, Chaozhou, Shanwei.

History: Jieyang has over 2,200 years' history. The name of 'Jieyang' firstly appeared in the history in the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC). In the Han Dynasty (206BC-220), it was an independent shire controlling several districts. In the following dynasties, it was separated and combined again and again and once belonged to Shantou. In 1991, Jieyang was turned into a prefecture-level city under the approval of the State Council.

Physical Features: Jieyang inclines from high west to low east. In its northwest and southwest lie hills and mountains while in the middle and southeast lie wide fertile plains.

Climatic Features: Jieyang belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate zone. It is endowed with rich sunshine, rain but nearly no snow. The annual average temperature is about 21.4C (70.5F).

Local Highlights: Jieyang is where Hakka (a special northern Han community melted with the southern China cultures) inhabit. The profound and interesting local flavor attracts tourists mostly. Jieyang is also a famous hometown of many overseas Chinese.

Tourist Tips: Jieyang is the transportation center of east Guangdong, southwest Fujian and south Jiangxi. National and provincial highways link Shantou, Chaozhou, Shenzhen and other cities together. Rongjiang River is the 'Golden Channel' of east Guangdong, extending to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai and other coast cities. Guangmeishan railway (a line covering most places of Guangdong and mixing with other railways) wind across Jieyang, providing quite easy access to not only Guangdong provincial cities, but also others such as Beijing, Zhengzhou, Fuzhou, Qingdao, Nanjing, Chengdu, Hefei, Kunming, Xiamen and Changsha. In addition, Jieyang is only one hour drive to Shantou Waisha Airport (SWA).
