Zhenhai Tower
Standing on the top of Yuexiu Hill in the northern suburbs, the 28-meter-high five-story tower-also known as Five-story Pagoda was built on the order of Zhu Liangzu, the Yongjia Marquis of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), to flaunt his power that was able to 'shake the seas and mountains'. It is a magnificent building, commanding a bird's eye view of the whole city. The tower now houses the City Museum, with exhibits which describe the history of Guangzhou from Neolithic times till the early part of this century.

Stone Sculptures of Five Rams
The stone sculptures of five rams were carved on the granite in 1959. Legend has it that there were once five hermits who took as many rams, each with an ear of rice in its mouth to Guangzhou, where they prayed for the extermination of famine. After that the hermits flew up to the sky. And the five rams turned into the fossils. For this Guangzhou is sometimes referred to as "Goat Castle" or "Rice Castle".

It acts as a natural defense in the northern part of the Guangzhou city together with Bai Yun Mountain. With height of more than 7000m above sea level, it is also historically known as Yue (Guangdong) Xiu mountain, Yue Wang Mountain. During the Ming dynasty, in the reign of Yong Le, Guan Yin temple was built on this mountain hence it is also called Guan Yin mountain.

Now, Yuexiu Park is known for providing immense and comprehensive cultural recreation. It consists of one main hill, Yue Jin Gang, 7 small hills Guihua Gang, Muhe Gang, Yu Gang, etc. and Baixiu, Nanxiu, Dongxiu artificial lake. Its total area is 860,000 sqm. Its Afforestation rate is at 92%. It is also a host to famous historical architectural site like Zhen Hai Building, Ming Gu Wall, square cannon site, Dr, Sun Yat Sens monument etc. Historical sites and ancient trees were also built and planted respectively around Wu yang temple, hall of Chinese Idioms, a place of relaxation with trees, and bamboos, Garden of flowers, Art Gallery, Museum, recreational area, swimming pool, playground, restaurants, kiosk, states, building and pavilion etc. for people to rest and relax, making it a pleasurable experience to visit the park.
