Taipa was famous for making firework in the past. It was an island composed of villages. There is a temple of Tin Hau, the Queen of Heaven and Protectress of Seafarers near the wharf. With the completion of building the Taipa Bridge connecting Macao and Taipa and continuous development in recent years, many hotels and restaurants and tall buildings and large mansions have been built, among which restaurants in are most famous.

Some renowned restaurants with different delicacies are concentrated here, such as the vegetarian food in the Puppet Restaurant and Bodhi Garden. There is a built in 1885, in front of which there is a garden with fountain and grapevine trellis for visitors to shelter. Along the meandering path to pass through the star garden, there is the Taipa beach which was the habour for the Chinese and Indian merchant ships to anchor in the old days. Here there are many buildings of the twenties, one of which is now the Taipa Dwelling House Museum, exhibiting furniture and decorations etc. used by the indigenous families of Macao in the old days. Besides, the predecessor of the Taipa Racecourse was the ground for racing horse-carts. After enlargement in 1989, it is now only for racecourse. With all weather sand-land mingled with grass-land, there are tow racecourses which are up to international standard, having day and night two matches. Going further, there comes Coloane linked by a highway which is a protected green belt with hill and dale of different flowers, grass and trees, a natural scenery utterly different from the city areas of Macao. The suburb parks occupy 20 hectare of land including squares, swan lakes, paradise of small birds etc. in which more than hundred kinds of birds are bred. Inside the Lord Tan Temple of Coloane, there is a dragon boat made of big whale bone, crescent moon in shape. It has been decorated with fascinating silk banners, royal umbrella, gong and drum and fisherman model, vivid and full of folk characteristics. In the city area, there is also a church called St. Johns Church which was built in 1928. In front, there erected a monument in memory of the victory over the aggression of pirates in 1910. In the hall there is a bone chest inside which the handbone and bangle of the missionary St. Johns are kept. Originally there kept inside the hall holy bangles of 59 Japanese and 14 Vietnamese dead bodies who were victims of the St. Paul Church fire in 1835.
