Cruise Ship Gourmet Dining

On New Century Cruises, your meals are prepared by both European and Chinese chefs, and Swiss hotel management oversees your dining experience. Breakfast is typically a buffet featuring fresh fruit, juices, pastries, eggs, cheeses and cold cuts or cereal; you can also order from featured "hot selections" of the day. In China, youll have Western-style lunches and dinners as well as family-style Chinese menus designed by celebrity chef Martin Yan. Steak, chicken, and Caesar salad are also always available.

Mr. Yan has decades of experience in preparing Eastern cuisine for Western audiences, and he has created four distinctive family-style meals, each comprised of eight dishes that highlight a variety of regional Chinese tastes. On the New Century Cruises Yangtze River cruises, the Chinese meals are alternated with Western-style meals, including an on-deck barbecue. Mr. Yan is also training the onboard New Century Cruises chefs in the essentials of top-quality cuisine. The New Century Cruises have the only "Western" kitchen on the Yangtze, which includes a dishwasher and other quality control elements that will help ensure that the kitchen on the New Century Cruises will meet the high standards of the company's European ships.

I have special dietary needs; what should I do?
If you wish a special diet such as vegetarian, low-salt or low-cholesterol, please inform us prior to departure and also be sure to inform your Hotel onboard. Our chefs will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate your special dietary requests.

Can I sit where I want in the onboard restaurant?
All New Century Cruises are open-seating, meaning you may sit where you like. Century Diamond Cruises do not accept table reservations so that youre free to meet other passengers and make new friends.

On Board Activities

New Century Cruises itineraries are designed to give you the best balance between time ashore, scenic cruising, and visits to a variety of places. Typically youll have at least one tour a day-morning or afternoon, with the balance of the day cruising through scenic countryside.

A final detailed itinerary will be sent with your documents about three weeks prior to departure. Please realize that your exact itinerary is subject to change due to holidays, occasional temporary site closures and weather conditions, in which case well make the best possible alternate arrangements to maximize your experience.

A typical day on board starts with "early bird" breakfast from 6:00-7:00 am in the Observation Lounge. Regular buffet breakfast is served from 7:00-9:00 am in the restaurant, and it includes food that will satisfy both American and European palates.

A daily briefing of the events ahead or a shore excursion (included in the fare) usually follows breakfast or is in the late afternoon during cocktail hour. Lunch is either back on the ship or is a picnic ashore, prepared by the staff on the Century Diamond Cruises. Like European cruise ships, lunch is both a buffet and/or from the menu.

The afternoon may be spent cruising the Yangtze, followed by tea in the Observation Lounge. Cocktail hour is from 6:00 to 7:00, and the prices are reasonable. Open seating dinner is back in the restaurant, followed by some type of entertainment. The day ends with a "late night" snack at 10:30 or 11:00.

Tai Chi Chuan: The term Chuan refers to a school or method of boxing or combat. Tai Chi Chuan is a sophisticated method of fighting based on the reconciliation of dynamically interacting forces. Daily practice of Tai Chi promotes mental clarity and a healthy body, assists with balance and helps the circulation of the blood. Tai Chi is also a vehicle for the realization of surpassing beauty.

Lectures: New Century Cruises offer lectures on Chinese history and culture which add insight and depth to the cruise experience. Topics include the evolution of the dam project and its importance to China, Chinese medicine, poetry by many of the famous Chinese sages, Chinese language, Chinese traditional brush painting, dumpling wrapping, etc.

Cabaret Shows: Our crew puts on a performance not to be missed! Singing, dancing, music! The cabaret show is also an opportunity for passengers to display any special talents they may have, whether it be shaking a leg, or curling the tongue...anything!

Feature Films: If you prefer to simply relax in your cabin, feature films are presented on your cabin television.

Tea Time and Happy Hour: Complimentary tea and coffee is offered in the early morning before breakfast, and complimentary tea and cookies are offered in the afternoon. During "Happy Hour", enjoy your favorite cocktail at a discounted price, as you unwind from the day's activities.
